June 06, 2008 - We are giving away free copies of the Armenia Fund Annual Report 2007 book complete with a DVD. This book covers the Fund’s most remarkable initiatives that came to life in the past year. While outlining the main achievements and the thorny road still ahead of us, this book is our way of saying a very special thank you to each and every Armenian - scattered around the world but brought together by the (at times evasive, seemingly unreachable but nevertheless noble) dream of a prosperous homeland.

May 23, 2008 - May is quite the month here in the Armenia Fund Executive office with the
heads of our Affiliate offices from around the world gathering here in
Yerevan for the annual meeting of the Armenia Fund’s Board of Trustees.
This is a milestone event for the Fund as this is when the leaders of
Armenia’s and Karabakh’s governments, spiritual leaders and prominent
representatives of the Diaspora come together to discuss, single out the
priorities and chart the course of the Fund’s activities for the coming year.

May 16, 2008 - Last week we talked about the desperate conditions that people living in the villages near Armenia’s border with Iran have to endure on a daily basis, conditions that have forced many families out of their homes and, most often - out of their country. This is a constant process and each new day with no improvement sees another family embark on an uncertain journey for a new home. For those who remain, the hope for a better future is a luxury they simply cannot afford. All this is about to change. The representatives of the Iranian Armenian community who joined us on our trip to the region will reach out to their compatriots and together we will work on bringing change and returning hope to these border villages.

May 08, 2008 - After a week coinciding with the international proletarian holiday of May 1,
which we naturally (and thoroughly) honored, we are back to invite you to a
journey to Meghri, the northernmost point of Armenia bordering Iran. We
made this two day trip to gather first hand information on the situation and
needs in three border villages of Shvanidzor, Alvank and Nrnadzor. We were
joined by the representatives of Iranian Armenian community who are
willing to reach out to their compatriots on the other side of the border. Also
joining us was Armen Ekserciyan, a benefactor from Argentine who has
taken on the challenge of breathing a new life into the community of Ditavan
in Tavush and is in Armenia to discuss the priorities and the long term
development strategy for this border village.

April 25, 2008 - For every Armenian, for all of us this week will forever bear the deep scars of a tragedy that shook our nation more than any calamity Armenians went through in the millennia long history, a tragedy, repercussions of which we feel to this day and will bear in our hearts as long as we live. On April 24, we pay our tribute to the victims of the Armenian Genocide of 1915 that took the life of a million and a half of our compatriots and scattered the rest of us around the globe. At the same time, this is the day when we pay tribute to the unbreakable Armenian spirit - to the people who did the impossible to survive. Every Armenian family cherishes its own unique story of survival, of courage and heroism, of people who stood up against the murderous system of the Ottoman Empire and prevailed - saving the life of their loved ones and ensuring the future of our nation.

April 11, 2008 - This week’s spotlight is on Aknaghbyur – a tiny border community set in one of the most picturesque locations in Armenia. We visited the village to deliver a computer, printer, TV, DVD player and a collection of DVDs to the community library. These projects were made possible by the Swiss Armenian community, which has undertaken the ambitious task of revitalizing Aknaghbyur by realizing a whole string of development projects. Below is the story of the first two projects – in pictures.

March 28, 2008 - Another week has gone by. If we were to name it, we would call it a small
projects week. With the parallel realization of three initiatives, this is quite
an obvious choice, really. Read on our news in brief section to find out more.
We will also talk about the village cultural projects and how you can have your
input in bringing new ideas and opening new horizons for the children in the
border communities. In this week’s video section we will ask you to answer
one simple question: do they deserve?

March 7, 2008 - It’s hard to believe that it has only been a week since our last report. In that seemingly short period, Armenia has gone through a chain of disturbing events that left all of us shaken. A week later we can still feel the repercussions of these events. We will not go into details of what happened: you have probably read the reports and seen the pictures. What happened was a potent evidence of how thin is the line between democracy and chaos, how fragile - our illusion of security. Our thoughts and prayers are with everyone who was affected by this tragedy.
Despite all this, we have a job to do and this week we offer you a photo story of our trip to Lori, which covers two projects implemented in the region’s border communities.

February 29, 2008 - This week we’ll talk about our meeting with the SDC and an expert from the
Springfield Centre for Business in Development. We also launch a new
section of our weekly reports aiming to depict the life and problems that our
border villages face in…numbers. Not being a lyrical device, numbers can,
however, sometimes speak much louder than words.
We also have a new video sequence for you.

February 15, 2008 - With St. Valentine’s Day just behind us and the Presidential elections fast approaching, this week we are truly caught in the middle of the two great powers – love and politics. Nevertheless, we will resist the temptation to stray away and are determined to stick to our core topics. So, this week’s topics are: the Rural Development Program working trip to Karabakh (with a little something extra) and yet another small project coming to life. In the spotlight of the meet the people section is Sevan Varteressian, who made the latest small project possible.

February 08, 2008 - This week we bring you a batch of good news concerning the Aknaghbyur community (Tavush region) development initiative that will become a reality thanks to the support of the Armenian community in Switzerland. This was also the week when we finally wrapped the filming process on the first vocational training DVD and are currently busy putting it together with the technical assistance of Armenia TV.
We are excited to add a new feature to our weekly updates - meet the people section will focus on individuals who are involved in the Rural Development Program: people who have helped bring a project to life and individuals who live and try to build their lives in the border villages will both be in our spotlight. This is also something that we want to dedicate to everyone who cares and supports the Program. Today’s meet the people is dedicated to Ms. Shakeh Havan who is currently sponsoring the renovation of the community library of Azatamut.
