The village of Khachik is located 21 km southeast of the marz center.
The name of the community has been Khachik from the beginning of its establishment. Most of Khachik's population are the descendants of immigrants from the Armenian towns of Khoy and Salmast. (In those days, Khachig was part of Persia.) There are ruins of a church just outside the village, which is referred to in manuscriptis as Khotakerats Convent. The construction date of the monastery is unknown; it's only known that it was reconstructed in 910 AD by Princess Shushanik of Syunik, in memory of her sister. In the north-eastern part of the community the Chapel of Hngzara, which means "illuminator", where villagers used to sacrifice animals to keep the cattle and sheep secure from different diseases and served them only to passers-by and guests. This tradition is kept alive still. The Monastery of Karakomp (9th c.) and the fortress of Berdatagh have endured the centuries and still stand.

| Economic Assessment |
| |
Only 15 years ago, Khachik was a flourishing rural community with an economy based not only on agriculture but also on small-scale production. Today, the community - as most of those in rural areas in Armenia - depends merely on agriculture. The agricultural lands are used inefficiently. The main reason for this inadequate use of land is the general absence of an irrigation network. Almost no contemporary farming techniques are applied and no crop protection methods are used against hail and frost, resulting in unstable and unpredictable yield.
Khachik has favorable conditions for development of animal husbandry having abundant pastures and opportunities for production of fodder as well as strong traditions in the area. However, limited capacity to collect and store milk, low productivity cows (6 liters per day on average) and lack of contemporary farming techniques do not allow utilizing this opportunity. Formerly there were 1,000 heads of cattle in the community where as now they have only 400 animals.
The Community has deposits of stone (called Momik), but the quantity of this stone is unclear. Eighty hectares of land have been leased to a Canadian-Armenian company for quarrying and stone processing.
