Ptghavans arable lands are partly gravity irrigated, however improper management (non-timely supply of irrigation water) executed by Water Users Association hinders efficient agricultural activities |

| Drinking water |
Currently local artesian wells water the community uses only for sanitary needs while the drinking water (of slightly better quality) bring from Ptghavan. But there is opportunity to restore the drinking water pipeline from Stepanavan which once realized will solve the same problem in several neighboring villages |

Considering the agroclimatic conditions, irrigation possibilities as well as available land resources, it is proposed that Ptghavan farmers intensively develop horticulture and viticulture.
Restoration and development of marketing channels for future crops are of key importance. The viticulture compared to horticulture is in much better position since Yerevan Brandy Company (a Pernod Ricard subsidiary) and Yerevan Champagne Wines Plant are procuring the grape in the sub-region.
As for horticulture the development of marketing channels it is proposed to consider two main options. The first is establishment/development of agricultural produce distribution links with major fresh fruit and veg wholesalers especially those targeting export markets. In former times the fresh fruit grown in Noyemberian region had been exported by railway and trucks to many close and remote regions of Soviet Union. In this regard considering that Ptghavan as well as other fruit producing sub-regional communities are located close to Yerevan-Tbilisi interstate highway and railway establishment of fresh fruit cargo terminal with all necessary infrastructures (warehouses, packaging and packing equipments, etc.) could substantially boost the expansion of fruit production in the area.
The second option is establishment or revival of processing companies in this sub-region. In Ayrum some 15 km south from Ptghavan is located former Ayrum Cannery, one of the biggest in Soviet Armenia. However today it almost doesnt operate.
In case of expansion of orchards the available set of agricultural machinery will become not sufficient. Thus the new special machinery for horticulture and viticulture will allow fully realize local agricultural potential. Besides, other relevant machinery will contribute to the production of rich fodder to increase cows' productivity.
The animal husbandry sector should be developed via improvement of breeds, better feeding and ultimately increase of milk and meat commercialization level. Nowadays all produced milk is utilized in-home as it is or in processed state mainly cheese. Barter transactions with non-food goods are common. Production of rich fodder will also increase milk production and minimize the impact of climate fluctuations on cow production. It is also worth implementing cow breeding technologies such as regular artificial insemination
The marketing side of animal husbandry in Ptghavan should be addressed by establishing a milk collection point in one of the sub-region communities, milk to be procured by major dairy companies from Yerevan or other nearby regions. The ultimate decision on relevant marketing options (establishment of a sub-regional slaughter house and meat processing enterprise also should be considered) could be done only after conducting relevant feasibility studie
