History

The Yeghegn village is referred to as such in St. Orbelyans writings. According to memoirs it has been a writing center. According to tax lists the village paid 12 unites to the Tatev Monastery. In the 19th century Armenians lefte the village and Turkish speaking tribes settled in the village. It was probably at this time that the village was renamed Shabadin. There are two 17-18th c. churches in the village and a cemetery. 1 km North of the village there is a village area.

The Azerbaijanis emigrated in 1988-1989 and the village was resettled by Armenians deported from Azerbaijan. In 1991 the Yegheg village council was formed, as it separated from the Sevakar village council.

This is the regular train that serves the needs of the people of Armenia's Shirak region. It has not been replaced for more than forty years and still bears the (now rusty)symbols of the Soviet Empire. Convenience and comfort are two things one will not find here.
