Nation Building: One Village at a Time

Rural Development
Program
Khoznavar: Syunik

History

According to historical sources, the name Khoznavar comes from the two words Khozan and Var. In the year 149, the town was recognized as one of Kashatagh rural regions villages in Syunik marz, where parts of the bible were rewritten, recognizing the village as a writing center in Tsutsak Dzeragrats.
Within the village territory, there are wind-carved rocks, cave dwellings, a place called Khatcher and the ancient Tsitsernavank. In the village exists the church of St. Minas, built in 1675, and in the year 194 in place of another church, a school was built. Medical Doctor Professor A. Harutyunian, and composer E. Baghdasarian were born in Khoznavar.

This is the regular train that serves the needs of the people of Armenia's Shirak region. It has not been replaced for more than forty years and still bears the (now rusty)symbols of the Soviet Empire. Convenience and comfort are two things one will not find here.
