Nation Building: One Village at a Time

Rural Development
Program
Bardzravan: Syunik

History

In the past the village has been called Qyurdik and Yericatumb. It was renamed Bardzravan in 1940. It is located on a highland to the right of Vorotan River, on a beautiful plateau. Until the terrifying 1931 earthquake of Zangezour, the village was relocated on the right uphill side of the Vorotan River. As a result of the earthquake the village was destroyed (49 people died) and a new village was created on the indicated plateau.
Some of the residents moved to Bardzravan from Shinuhayr in 1866.
St. Hripsime (restored in the 19th century) is located in the region, Krataks St. Minas (churches built in 1821), Bgheno Noravanks monuments stadium, Pasharajur and Maj village sites.

This is the regular train that serves the needs of the people of Armenia's Shirak region. It has not been replaced for more than forty years and still bears the (now rusty)symbols of the Soviet Empire. Convenience and comfort are two things one will not find here.
