Among the villages former names are Aravis, Aravsa, Aravus, Araesa, Shaharjik, Shenirchik, Saear-Ali. In 1968 the village was renamed Arevis. In ancient times, the village was a writing center, where in 1411, according to a memoir, Grigor Grich copied a Bible.
