| History |
| |
The village, Aghvani, dates back to the latter part of the Middle Ages. In the 19th century many Armenians gradually left the village, while newcomers of Turkish ancestry settled in the village. During the independence movement of 1919 and 1920 the Muslim population abandoned the village, thus the village destroyed. The village was founded in 1923 by those who had resettled in the neighboring village Tandzatap. In 1928 collective farming was started in Aghvani and a village Council was created. In 1952, Aghvanis village Council was abolished, thus the village fell under the village Council of Tandzaver and their collective farms were combined.
In 1991 Aghvani separated from the village Council of Tandzaver and created its own administrative unit. A cemetery, from the 17th and 18th centuries, exists in the South of the village, as well as a dilapidated church with epitaph khachkars and with polished basalt stones. 400 meters south-west to the village there are tomb fields dating back to the 2nd to 1st B.C. In the village there is a monument dedicated to those who had perished during 1941-1945 in the Patriotic War.
