TOTAL NEEDED

Economic Assessment

Remoteness and/or inaccessibility of the main markets from Getik is a serious constraint.
The community has 1,700 ha total area, of which 800 ha are pastures, 700 ha are grasslands, and 220 ha are arable lands; therefore animal husbandry is worth supporting. Although the current number of cattle in Getik is not small (about 600) only a few farmers keep a commercially profitable number of cattle: more than 25. This sector can be developed via improvement of breeds, better feeding and ultimately increase of milk and meat commercialization level.
Cheaper and regular irrigation would make possible production of rich feed. This activity will allow not only the increase of milk productivity but also livestock breeding.
The local climatic conditions are also favorable for intensively raising sheep (the number of sheep in Getik is only 500) which will include production of meat, sheep's milk and wool.
Getik has a fairly developed apiculture; every year they produce more than 10 tons of honey.
The commercial profitability can increase with a larger beehive/farmer ratio.
Microfinancing is necessary for growth in all sectors.

This is the regular train that serves the needs of the people of Armenia's Shirak region. It has not been replaced for more than forty years and still bears the (now rusty)symbols of the Soviet Empire. Convenience and comfort are two things one will not find here.
