Yervandashats potential lies in developing its animal husbandry and, especially, agriculture sectors. The communitys key advantages are its proximity to Armenias main markets, vast land resources and available expertise. However, its main disadvantages are the lack of proper irrigation networks and other necessary infrastructure (i.e. telephone, roads).
The community has already begun to develop its agriculture sector by moving away from low-income generating cereal farming (typical of communities that are low on irrigation water) and targeting the restoration of its traditional vineyards and orchards. Yervandashats climate and land are ideal for fruit and vegetables. The community should target the development of an already established dried-fruit processing operation in the village, as well as its linkages to winemaking, food-processing and fruit wholesale. The transfer of technologies such as vacuum packing equipment may boost the production of dry-fruits and other products.
Yervandashats climate and potential in developing rich fodder crops (e.g. alfalfa) make animal husbandry also a very potential sector. Increased production of milk and meat can be mainly targeted and sold to regional food processing enterprises and milk collection points.
Through the transfer of expertise and technologies, the already existing human capacity at this community may be sufficient for implementing a targeted development strategy.
