Nation Building: One Village at a Time

Rural Development
Program
CLUSTERS: "Khashtarak Cluster"
Roads

General Information: Accessible and reliable roads are a vital component of improving infrastructure in the RDP clusters. They are also a central economic element of the Rural Development Program serving as the key artery connecting the villages to the potential markets.

In the past, poor condition of the roads coupled with the remoteness from the markets has brought isolation and lack of available capital to the communities. While the Program is aiming at economically derived infrastructure, ensuring decent roads will be a potent stimulus and speed up economic recovery and development of the region. Below is the list of the Khashtarak cluster villages with the information on the length of inter-communal as well as internal roads in need of repair.

Aknaghbyur: The length of the road connecting the village to the M4 (Armenia – Georgia interstate) highway is 2.45 km. The length of the internal road in need of repair is 5.2km (see appendix 2 for proposed intercommunal road reconstruction map).

Azatamut: The length of the road connecting the village to the M4 highway is 5km. The length of the internal road in need of repair is 4km.

Ditavan: The length of the road connecting the village to the M4 highway (Armenia – Georgia interstate) is 3.05 km. The length of the internal road in need of repair is 2.6km (see appendix 3 for proposed intercommunal road reconstruction map).

Lusadzor: The length of the road connecting the village to the M4 highway (Armenia – Georgia interstate) is 1.47 km. The length of the internal road in need of repair is 6.1km (see appendix 4 for proposed intercommunal road reconstruction map).

This is the regular train that serves the needs of the people of Armenia's Shirak region. It has not been replaced for more than forty years and still bears the (now rusty)symbols of the Soviet Empire. Convenience and comfort are two things one will not find here.
