Hayastan All-Armenian Fund constructs orphanage in Shushi
The Hayastan All-Armenian Fund is implementing the second phase of the construction of an orphanage in Shushi. The project is sponsored by Armenian-American industrialist and benefactor Hirair Hovnanian, an Honorary Member and major supporter of the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund, who in the past 20 years has had an invaluable role in the realization of the fund’s diverse development initiatives. The orphanage project is co-sponsored by the government of NKR.

The future facility will house close to 80 children between the ages 1 and 15 who currently live at the Stepanakert Children’s Home. With the construction of the orphanage in Shushi, a picturesque mountain city renowned for its healthful climate, the fund seeks to considerably improve the living conditions of parentless children.

The three-story orphanage will feature spacious, comfortable living quarters and the full complement of amenities including a canteen, an events hall, and central heating and air-conditioning. The building will also have several leisure and sports premises, comprising playrooms, a gymnasium, and a playground. In addition, the building will feature a computer room and a library, which, complemented by a host of educational and arts programs, are designed to foster the intellectual and creative skills of the children, and ultimately help them become independent, self-actualized individuals.

Currently crews are building the second floor. Construction is slated to be completed by spring 2014, when the facility will open its doors.
