Hayastan All-Armenian Fund opens renovated Pediatric Department at Kapan Hospital
On May 22, a delegation of the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund, led by executive director Ara Vardanyan and comprising members of the fund’s Board of Trustees, representatives of its affiliates, and benefactors, officially opened the renovated Pediatric Department of Kapan Hospital (Syunik Region, Armenia), in the presence of numerous guests and medical staff.

Dignitaries attending the jubilant ceremony included Kapan mayor Artur Atayan and members of the Syunik Region administration. The event was also attended by several leaders of the British-Armenian community. They included Armineh Carapeti, chairperson of the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund’s British affiliate, and Vernon Hovsepian, vice-chair.

The renovation of the Pediatric Department was sponsored by the fund’s British affiliate, through a U.S. $1 million grant bequeathed by British-Armenian benefactor Garabed Nazarian.

Within the framework of the project, the Pediatric Department has been completely rebuilt. In addition, the two-story facility, which has a total area of 860 square meters, has been provided with new furniture, state-of-the-art medical equipment, and an ambulance.

Featuring rehabilitation and intensive-therapy units, the Pediatric Department offers comprehensive medical care, including treatment for acute pulmonary and infectious diseases. The facility is capable of accommodating up to 15 patients a day, and treats close to 450 children annually.

“The renovation of the building has enabled us to establish a neonatal rehabilitation unit as well,” said head nurse Donara Sargsyan. “We are overjoyed for having such a wonderful facility today. When I remember the terrible conditions with which we had to make do for so many years, I can’t find the words to adequately express the gratitude that my colleagues and I feel toward our benefactors.”
