Hayastan All-Armenian Fund’s Ororots Project reaches out to families in Spitak, Gyumri, and Maralik
Initiative is co-sponsored by Open Society Institute
Through its Ororots social-assistance project, the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund distributed newborn-care packages to 62 disadvantaged families living in Spitak (Lori Region), Gyumri, and Maralik (Shirak Region). The packages, which were delivered on December 27, contained infant clothing and various baby-care items, and weighed up to ten kilograms.

“This is a critically needed outreach effort, especially in remote villages,” said Aida Khachikyan, coordinator of the initiative and Social and Humanitarian Projects advisor to the executive director of the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund. “Naturally we all wish that these families will soon be able to stand on their own feet; in the meantime, the Ororots Project will continue to provide as much assistance as possible,” Khachikyan added.

The December 27 distribution of packages, the latest in a string of such initiatives undertaken by Ororots, was co-sponsored by the Open Society Institute and the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund.

In May, August, and November 2011, Ororots distributed assistance packages to a total of 87 disadvantaged families in rural communities near the cities of Dilijan, Ijevan, Noyemberyan, and Berd (all in the Tavush Region).

Khachikyan said that beneficiaries get maximum value out of their assistance packages. As many have cited, she explained, the infant clothes are never discarded after usage, in case they’ll be needed again when there is a new addition to the family.
