Hayastan All-Armenian Fund rewards outstanding Yerevan Conservatory studentsOn April 14 the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund awarded violinist Anna Margaryan, a student at the Yerevan Conservatory, with the Hrair and Martha Albarian Scholarship. The award ceremony took place at the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund offices in Yerevan.
The annual scholarship is sponsored by Argentinean-Armenian benefactors Mr. and Mrs. Hrair and Martha Albarian, who also select the winner from a list of candidates submitted by the Yerevan Conservatory administration. Scholarship winners receive a monetary prize equivalent to U.S. $500 as well as a diploma of recognition. The Hrair and Martha Albarian Scholarship is aimed at encouraging extraordinary scholastic achievement.
“This project provides Armenian youths with an added incentive to excel at their chosen field of study,” says Aida Khachikyan, advisor to the executive director of the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund. “A good example is Mary Khojayan, who in 2008 was named Student of the Year and in 2009 was awarded the President’s Youth Prize. We’re confident that Anna Margaryan, too, will go on to become a great success.”
A second-year student at the Yerevan State Conservatory’s Strings Department, Anna Margaryan was named 2010 Student of the Year. To date the young musician has earned considerable recognition in Armenia and abroad. She is a winner of the Alexander Spendiaryan and Emin Khachatryan music competitions, and a second-place winner of the FLAME international young musicians’ competition, held in Paris.
While Margaryan says she hasn’t decided how she will spend her monetary award, she does have a cherished dream: one day to perform in concert against the backdrop of Victoria Falls, in southern Africa.
