Hayastan All-Armenian Fund unveils newly built water-supply system in Ditavan
Opening ceremony attended by benefactors Armen and Nadia Ekserciyan as well as youth delegation from Argentina
With an opening ceremony held on July 26, the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund unveiled a newly built potable-water system in Ditavan, a village in Armenia’s Tavush Region. The project (around 97 million AMD) was sponsored by Mr. and Mrs. Armen and Nadia Ekserciyan of Argentina, who are Benefactor Members of the fund.

The festive opening ceremony was attended by the Ekserciyans and their daughters as well as a youth delegation from the fund’s Argentinean affiliate, led by vice-chair Rosita Yussufian. Also present were Ararat Khlghatyan, deputy director of the fund; Tavush deputy governors Vahe Vardapetyan and Levon Sargsyan; Ditavan mayor Seyran Sargsyan; and a large number of Ditavan residents.

The new system will provide around-the-clock drinking-water service to Ditavan’s close to 120 households. The system comprises a 2.5-kilometer water pipeline, a 3.5-kilometer internal network, a reservoir with a capacity of 100 cubic meters, and two water-collection units.

The opening ceremony commenced with a prayer and the blessing of water, offered by vicarial diocesan of Gugark diocese of Armenina Apostolic Church Der Torgom Tonikyan. Subsequently Deputy Governor Levon Sargsyan named Mr. and Mrs. Ekserciyan “Honorary Citizens of Tavush,” in recognition of their continual support of vital development projects in Ditavan.

“Some years ago, when my wife and I visited Ditavan for the first time and witnessed the many serious issues the community faced, we could scarcely expect that they could be solved within a short span. Today we’re delighted to see that Ditavan has been given a new lease on life,” Mr. Ekserciyan said during his welcome speech.

On his part, Ararat Khlghatyan of the Hayastan fund congratulated the residents of the village for their newly built water system and concluded his address with the words “May you enjoy it in good health.”

Following the opening ceremony, PR department of the fund presented 415 books to the Ditavan public library. The volumes were donated by the Safrazbekian family.

Since 2009, several infrastructure- and community-development projects have significantly improved the quality of life of the Ditavan community. Apart from the potable-water initiative, the completed projects include a natural-gas network, an irrigation system, and a community center which houses the mayoral offices, a health clinic, a public library, and an events hall.

Also delivering remarks at the ceremony was Ditavan mayor Seyran Sargsyan, who conveyed his gratitude to the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund and stated: “Day by day, positive changes in Ditavan are becoming increasingly tangible. While the provision of natural gas has resulted in a considerable lessening of deforestation, as people no longer need to cut down trees for firewood, the availability of irrigation water has led to the cultivation of larger tracts of arable land. Moreover, today our residents frequently enjoy cultural and other events, which are held at our new community center, likewise built by the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund.”
