Project aims to help increase foot-traffic safety
In an effort to help address the issue of foot-traffic safety in the Armenian capital, the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund is building a pedestrian overpass at the crossing of Khanjyan and Tumanyan streets, one of Yerevan’s busiest intersections. The project is sponsored by the Hayastan All Armenian Fund US Eastern Region Affilate (benefactor Hirair Hovnanian). The ptoject is implemented jointly with the Yerevan Municipality.
To date the foundations of the structure have been laid and currently crews are constructing the pillars. Two and half meters wide and 25 meters long, the overpass will feature ample lighting, gutters, and tiled floors.
“Unfortunately many of the capital’s basic problems have yet to be resolved,” said Ara Vardanyan, executive director of the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund. “The construction of the overpass at the crossing of Khanjyan and Tumanyan streets is a much-needed project — the type of initiative that will help significantly enhance people’s experience of central Yerevan. I am confident that the overpass will go a long way in providing pedestrian safety and preventing accident involving pedestrians.”
It is noteworthy that Hirair Hovnanian also sponsors construction of an orphanage in Shushi, which is currently being designed.
