Reconstruction work at “Lovers’ Park” (previously Pushkin Park) on Baghramian Avenue resumed on 15 March, 2008. The Lovers’ Park Yerevan Landscaping and Design Project started in 2005. The Project is sponsored by “Boghossian” Foundation (previously “Robert Boghossian and Sons” Fund) and implemented in collaboration with (“Hayastan” All Armenian Fund). This is not merely a reconstruction initiative; it is a renovation project which also insures the sustainable maintenance of the park. The garden will open to the public in September 2008.
Remodeling and construction works are being carried out on a large scale at the park. The entire area of the park is 1.6 hectares; 1.05 hectares of which will be covered in lawns. Seating in the park includes 300 meters of benching. The park will have two waterfalls, a lake, an amphitheater with its more than 200 seats, a small open air café, sand paths for those who enjoy exercising and shaded pavilions for table games.
The overall number of trees in the revitalized park will be 300. At the first stage of the construction works, under the guidance of representatives of ecological NGO’s and the City Hall. 16 dried trees were cut and another 3 preserved for decorative purposes. The entire area of the park including the public restroom will be handicap accessible.
The design for the reconstruction of the new Lovers’ Park has been created by Pierre Rambach, a well known landscape architect based in Switzerland. The main construction works are being realized by “Gyughtntshinmontage No. 1” CJSC. The works are being supervised by the Coordination Office, which is situated close to the park.
The renovated Lovers’ park is a gift from the Boghossian family to the city of Yerevan and its citizens.
