Hayastan All-Armenian Fund’s Assistance To Four Villages in Vayots Dzor
In September 2008, Hayastan All-Armenian Fund's working group visited the Yeghegis, Hermon, Goghtanik and Vardahovit communities of Vayots Dzor region.
In September 2008, Hayastan All-Armenian Fund's working group visited the Yeghegis, Hermon, Goghtanik and Vardahovit communities of Vayots Dzor region. Following the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1988, the Azeri occupants of these villages began to leave. Armenians moved into the abandoned villages and established their schools there. The largest community among the four is Yeghegis, which has about 100 students; the smallest is Vardahovit with 10 students only.

The schools were presented with much needed educational and sports equipment. The project was initiated and financed by the Fund's Great Britain local committee. Students were given rucksacks containing items such as exercise books, diaries, color papers and pencils, and other stationary items. Maps and diagrams for geography, chemistry and physics were gifted to the teachers. Students and teachers were delighted when they were presented with sports equipment such as table-tennis tables, gym mattresses, balls, and sports clothing. Children of different age groups in 3 communities also received leather shoes.

Hayastan All-Armenian Fund's Acting Executive Director Ara Vardanyan and a representative of the Fund's Great Britain local committee, Anahit Ghazarian, joined the working group in order to personally present these gifts. "One special thing about the Hayastan Fund is that it is equally happy to implement a million or a thousand dollar project", said Ara Vardanyan. Anahit Ghazarian was very pleased to see how much everyone present was satisfied. "Happiness in children's eyes is the best reward for those in charge of the project", she said.
