Aknaghbyur is situated in Tavush region which occupies the north-eastern part of Armenia. Aknaghbyur has 551 residents. The village is located 153 km far from Yerevan and 13 km from province administrative center Ijevan town. Distance from the state border is 10 km.
Aknaghbyur was established in 451 in honor of Vardan Mamikonyan. It is situated on the left bank of Aghstev river. The neighboring villages are Lusadzor (south) and Achajur (north).

Aknaghbyur village school was built in 70s. Some 62 students attend the school. There are 18 teachers working at the school. Three years ago the school was partially renovated.

Today, the Aknaghbyur school children and teachers were presented with much needed educational and sports equipment. The project was initiated and financed by the Fund's Great Britain local committee. Students and teachers were delighted when they were presented with stationary items and sports equipment such as exercise books, pens, compasses, rulers, football and basketball balls. Students were given packages with exercise books, pens, color pencils, glues, rubbers, calculators and other items.
