Melik village is situated in Aragatsotn region of Armenia on the southern slopes of Tsaghunyats mountains, 40km away from the regional center Ashtarak and about 20km north-east from the town of Aparan. The population of Melik village is 1300. The people living here are mainly engaged in agriculture (fruit and vegetable growing, fodder crops cultivation), large and small cattle breeding, as well as poultry breeding. This village has a school, kindergarten, library and a medical center.
The village has a secondary school with 168 students currently attending. It was built in 1994, and is in a dilapidated condition.
Hayastan All Armenian Fund, within its rural development initiative, has launched the full renovation of the school of the village. The roof, doors, windows and staircases will be replaced and the floor area will be reconstructed. Internal furbishing of walls, ceilings and partitions will be carried out, as well as external tiling and plastering will be realized. Also, the boiler room will be reconstructed. The Melik village school renovation project will also include renovation of the sanitary units, installation of a heating system, water supply system, gasification, wiring, school yard asphalting, landscaping and other necessary works.
