VivaCell-MTS has sponsored the Telethon for the past five years. With the company’s support of the upcoming Telethon, the total amount of its five-year sponsorship will reach more than 717 million AMD (more than U.S. $2.1 million).
Telethon 2010 will be broadcast from Los Angeles on Thanksgiving Day, November 25. It will also be webcast and carried live by television stations in Armenia, with potential to reach 50 million households across the globe. This year a fourth Armenia-based television outlet, Yerkir Media, will join the H1, Shant, and Armenia stations to broadcast the Telethon.
Telethon 2010 will feature an extraordinary lineup of entertainers, appearances by elected officials and community leaders, and documentaries on the fund’s vital work in Armenia and Artsakh. Contributions made during the program will benefit water-infrastructure projects in Artsakh as well as various development initiatives in Armenia and Artsakh, including the fund’s ongoing Rural Development Program.
“It’s already been half a decade that VivaCell-MTS supports the Telethon, the largest pan-Armenian fundraising event of its kind, and continues to be a leading sponsor,” said Ara Vardanyan, executive director of Hayastan All-Armenian Fund. “The ongoing collaboration of VivaCell-MTS is truly exemplary.”
Commenting on VivaCell-MTS’ sponsorship of Telethon 2010, the company’s general manager, Ralph Yirikian, stated: “For the fifth year in a row, VivaCell-MTS extends hands to the Telethon. VivaCell-MTS cannot stand apart from the most important pan-Armenian initiative, which is aimed at creating quality infrastructure and living conditions for the population of the homeland’s border regions. We have to realize that there is no more alarming situation than the huge economic disparity between the center of Armenia and its periphery, that is to say, the country’s strategic borderland.”
Yirikian continued: “The business community’s engagement in the Telethon, the most important national cause, is crucial, as it is only through joined hands that we can make serious long-term changes: prevent migration from border regions, ensure sustainable development for the present and future generations, and encourage economic activity.”
Yirikian also expressed his conviction that the mission of the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund is entirely compatible with the philosophy of VivaCell-MTS, in terms of corporate social responsibility and community giveback. Accordingly, he said, five years ago the company began to provide major support to the fund, thereby significantly contributing to the success of its development projects.
In addition to VivaCell-MTS, sponsors of Telethon 2010 include Ameriabank, Ardshininvestbank, ACBA - Credit Agricole Bank, Artsakhbank, and Haypost, the postal service of the Republic of Armenia.
