Attending the Gala were Gagik Chalachyan, ambassador of the Republic of Armenia; the staff of the Armenian Embassy in Greece; spiritual leaders of the Greek-Armenian community; local representatives of Armenian political parties and cultural organizations; and numerous Greek friends and supporters of the Armenian community.
The welcoming address was delivered by Vatche Der Garabedian, chairman of the fund’s Greek affiliate. “Within barely a year of its launch in October 2009, the Greek affiliate has already become a dynamic member of the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund family,” Der Garabedian said. “Today, as we continue to grow, we seek the participation of the entire Greek-Armenian community in our activities, so we can provide optimal assistance to the development and prosperity of the Armenian homeland.”
Der Garabedian expressed his gratitude to Greek-Armenian benefactors and siblings Peruz and Antranig Yoljian for donating 30,000 euros to the Hayastan Al-Armenian Fund. The chairman also announced that funds raised during the Gala will benefit the establishment of an instruction and information center at the Vanadzor Children’s Home, in Armenia’s Lori Region. The project will be implemented by the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund.
Commenting on the occasion of the Greek affiliate’s first Gala Dinner, Ara Vardanyan, the fund’s executive director, said: “Within a very short span, our Greek affiliate has already earned the enthusiastic support of the Greek-Armenian community. The Gala Dinner held in Athens is a testament to that accomplishment, given that 150 supporters attended the celebration.”
Vardanyan continued: “I am extremely gratified that we have found in Vatche Der Garabedian a chairman who has earned the love and trust of the Greek-Armenian community. He deserves a great deal of credit for helping bring about the affiliate’s successes. I have no doubt that, very soon, signboards of newly launched projects in Armenia or Artsakh will include the words ‘Sponsored by the Greek Affiliate of the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund.’”
The Gala Dinner program included the screening of a documentary on the achievements and ongoing work of the fund. It was followed by a jubilant entertainment portion, featuring performances by reciter Garo Bardakjian, singer Nersig Isbirian, and other renowned artists.
