On November 16, the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund hosted a benefit gala dinner in Moscow, officiated by Serzh Sargsyan, president of the Republic of Armenia as well as the Board of Trustees of the fund, and attended by a large roster of guests including 150 Russian-Armenian industrialists. The event, which was held in the run-up to Telethon 2010, resulted in more than $8 million in pledged contributions.

Dignitaries and high-ranking fund representatives in attendance included Bako Sahakyan, president of the Republic of Nagorno Karabakh; Arkadi Ghukasyan, Republic of Armenia ambassador for special assignments; Hranush Hakobyan, Armenia’s minister of Diaspora; Oleg Yesayan, Armenia’s ambassador to Russia; and Ara Vardanyan, executive director of the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund.

Funds pledged during the Moscow gala dinner will be used to rebuild Artsakh’s water infrastructure and continue to develop rural communities across Armenia’s border regions.

In his keynote speech, President Sargsyan underscored the far-reaching significance of the fund’s work. He said, “Given its unique pan-national scope, the Hayastan All-Armenian Fund has for years carried out projects of vital importance, and, in particular, fulfilled its mission of unifying people around a higher cause. The work of the fund deepens our faith and trust in our own strengths, and, ultimately, our future.”

The names of supporters who have pledged contributions during the Moscow gala as well as the amounts of their pledges will be announced during Telethon 2010, which will be broadcast from Los Angeles on November 25.
